A detailed look at what comes inside the PreSonus DM-7 drum microphone kit and why each component matters for recording and live sound.
Quick answer
The PreSonus DM-7 Complete Drum Microphone Set includes seven microphones, clips, and a carrying case, giving you everything needed to mic a full acoustic drum kit for recording or live performance.
Why the DM-7 set is designed for individual mic placement
The key to a great acoustic drum kit sound is to capture each element individually so that you have the most control over your mix. The DM-7 set is built around this principle, providing dedicated microphones for the kick drum, snare, toms, and overheads.
What's inside the DM-7 box?
- BD-1 Dynamic Kick Drum Microphone
- A specially tuned dynamic mic designed to handle high SPLs from the kick drum while delivering both low-end thump and beater attack.
- SD-1 Dynamic Snare Drum Microphone
- A compact dynamic mic with a cardioid pattern that rejects bleed from nearby cymbals and toms, focusing on the snare's crack and body.
- Four (4) TD-1 Dynamic Tom Microphones
- Small-diaphragm dynamic mics with integrated clips that attach directly to tom rims, each capturing the tom's tone without interfering with playing.
- Two (2) OH-1 Condenser Overhead Microphones
- Small-diaphragm condenser mics with a cardioid pickup pattern, ideal for capturing cymbals and the overall kit ambiance from above. The set includes one pair of overhead mics, so you can use them in stereo for a wider soundstage.
- Mounting clips, adapters, and carrying case
- Each mic comes with the necessary clip or stand adapter, and the entire set packs into a padded carrying case for transport and storage. The included case makes it easy to keep the kit organized and protected between gigs or sessions.
