Learn how to rackmount your StudioLive 16.0.2 mixer using the PreSonus ear mounting kit. Step-by-step instructions and tips for a secure fit.
Quick answer
Use the PreSonus StudioLive 16.0.2 Rack Ear Mounting Kit to securely attach your mixer to a standard 19-inch rack. The kit includes left and right ears plus screws for a straightforward installation.
Why use the official ear mounting kit
The StudioLive 16.0.2 mixer is designed to sit on a desktop, but for touring or permanent installs, rackmounting saves space and protects the unit. The official ear mounting kit uses the same form factor as the mixer chassis, so the ears align perfectly with the rack rails without extra shimming or drilling.
Third-party rack shelves can work, but they add bulk and may block ventilation. The PreSonus kit keeps the mixer’s cooling vents clear and maintains access to rear connectors.
Step-by-step installation
- 1. Unpack and inspect the kit: Open the box and confirm you have the left ear, right ear, and all screws. The ears are labeled, but you can also tell by the shape: the side with the PreSonus logo goes outward. If any screw is missing, contact PreSonus support before starting.
- 2. Remove the mixer’s side trim (if installed): Some StudioLive 16.0.2 units ship with plastic side panels. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws holding each side panel. Set the panels aside; they are not needed for rackmounting. Store the side panels in a safe place if you ever want to restore the desktop look.
- 3. Attach the left ear: Position the left ear so its flat edge aligns with the mixer chassis. Insert the supplied screws through the ear holes into the threaded inserts on the mixer side. Tighten them snug, but do not overtighten—the ear should not deform. A common mistake is cross-threading the screws. Start each screw by hand to ensure it seats correctly.
- 4. Attach the right ear: Repeat the same process for the right ear. Both ears must be at the same height relative to the chassis so the mixer sits level in the rack. Check that both ears are parallel to the top and bottom of the mixer before final tightening.
- 5. Mount the mixer in the rack: Slide the mixer into your 19-inch rack from the front. Align the ear holes with the rack rails. Use standard rack screws (not included) to secure each ear to the rails. Support the mixer from underneath while tightening to avoid stress on the ears. Use all four screw holes on each ear for maximum stability. Leave a 1U gap above and below for airflow if possible.
